At the Y, we emphasize individual development and progress through skill-based curriculum, a caring environment, and attentive instructors. Your kids will not only learn skills, but also build self-confidence and character.

To ensure a quality instruction, our student/instructor ratios in instructional classes will not exceed 6:1 (does not apply to academy or team).

Ages 6+ | North, Northwest, and South YMCAs

Performers will be taught the 3-disciplines of musical theater; singing, acting and dancing. All skill levels are welcomed, and your child will build self-confidence in their stage abilities. All will have the opportunity to audition and be given a role to participate in the Spring Recital at the end of the session.

Level I - Ages 6-9 (60 min. class)
Level II - Ages 10+ (90 min. class)

Ages 2+ | Andover, El Dorado, North, Northwest, and South YMCAs

Start with the basics, and learn the rhythms and techniques of dance. Ballet, jazz, and tap styles offered. Leotard, tights, pink leather ballet shoes, and/or black tap shoes may be required.

Hop, Skip, Jump (ages 2-3) A, N, NW, S
This parent participation class will begin teaching motor skills and rhythm to your youngster while introducing them to a classroom setting and preparing them for the next level. 30-min. class.

Wiggles and Giggles (age 3) A, N, NW, S
Your child will begin learning basic ballet technique in this fun class that introduces your child to the fundamentals of dance. They will develop coordination and work on rhythm and timing while dancing to music. Leotard, tights and pink leather ballet shoes are required. 30-min. class.

Dance With Me (ages 4-5) A, EL, N, NW, S
Kids will continue developing their ballet technique with center and across the floor ballet combinations. We will also introduce them to some dance vocabulary and tap dance. Leotard, tights, pink leather ballet shoes, and black tap shoes are required. 30-min. class.

Young Beginner (ages 6-7) | Beginner (ages 8-11) | Teen (ages 12+) A, EL, N, NW, S
Your dancer will learn the fundamentals of ballet, tap and jazz techniques, as well as the structure of a dance class. Classes begin with a warm-up to work on poise, posture and flexibility. Coordination, timing and rhythm will develop as dance routines are taught. Leotard, tights, pink leather ballet shoes, and black tap shoes are required. 45-min. class.

Ages 3+ | Andover, El Dorado, North, Northwest & South YMCAs

Move with the music as you gain confidence and improve coordination through a variety of dance disciplines. Progressive classes explore ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and more! Improve flexibility, poise, posture, and timing as you develop skills through choreography. Focus is on mastering skills while building confidence and character.

Creative Movement (age 3)
This class introduces a child to dance and song, as they focus on basic ballet techniques, rhythm and timing with music. Dancers will also begin learning proper ballet and classroom etiquette. Pink leather ballet shoes are required. 30-min. class.

Pre-Dance I (ages 4-5)
This class includes both ballet and tap, and will continue to build on the techniques learned in Creative Movement. Dancers will also discover dance vocabulary. Pink leather ballet shoes and black tap shoes are required. 45-min. class.

Pre-Dance II (ages 5-6)
Previous dance experience not required. This introduces your child to the dance environment of proper etiquette and vocabulary, while teaching techniques in ballet and tap. Pink leather ballet shoes and black tap shoes are required. 45-min. class.

Academy I-II (Level I: ages 6-7, Level II: ages 8-11)

  • Ballet: Levels I-II ballet class offers students a class in classical ballet structure. Dancers begin with a warm-up to define poise and posture, then move to the ballet barre to continue developing body placement, proper technique, and flexibility. The skills developed throughout the barre exercises will then be used across the floor. Leotard, tights, pink leather ballet shoes are required. 45-min. class.
  • Tap/Jazz: In this class, your child will be introduced to the elements of sound in tap, with across the floor and center combinations, along with developing coordination and rhythm. In jazz, the focus will be on flexibility and different styles of jazz dance, such as, modern jazz and lyrical jazz. Leather jazz shoes and black tap shoes are required. 1 hr. class 

 
Academy III-IV (ages 8+)
These classes offer tap, ballet and jazz as separate classes to focus on a specific discipline designed for intermediate to advanced dancers. 45-min. class. • Ballet - Commences with barre work to reinforce technical training from Levels I and II • Jazz - Contemporary jazz dance is introduced • Tap - Modern and street style blend of tap Pink leather ballet shoes, black tap shoes, and black leather jazz shoes are required.

Academy - Hip Hop (ages 8+)
This class teaches dancers different styles of hip hop. Shorts, t-shirt, tennis shoes required. 45-min class.

Ages 6+ | Andover, North, Northwest & South YMCAs

For dedicated, disciplined and advanced dancers. Dancers participating in lyrical ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and musical theater will gain confidence, have fun, and be rewarded for their hard work. Y Dance Companies compete throughout the year, as well as perform at community events and a spring recital. Company Prep also available.

  • Progression of advanced dance skills, techniques and choreography
  • Continue to build strength, flexibility and memorization skills, while developing sportsmanship
  • Dedicated dancers will compete in local, regional and national talent competitions
  • Performances at community events and Spring recital in May
  • Yearly commitment
