About 17 years ago, I was diagnosed with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease, or PKD. It is a genetic disease that causes one’s kidneys to become covered in cysts and grow extremely large, sometimes the size of footballs and can weigh up to 25 pounds each. Everyone's a Y member on Sunday, January 1, when the Greater Wichita YMCA opens its doors to the community for its annual New Year's Day Open House from 9:00am - 6:00pm.  Families are encouraged to start the New Year off with healthy activities as they swim in the indoor pools, play in the gymnasiums, use a variety of exercise equipment or have fun in any of the Farha Family Centers.
