NEWTON YMCA

YMCA staff are committed to serving you and your family. That's why we strive to both model and exemplify the Y's core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Tera comes to us with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska and a long, successful career with the YMCA across multiple states. Since 2003, she has continually taken on new opportunities and challenges with the Y. Starting out in Omaha, Nebraska, in the fitness department, Tera later moved into leadership roles, directing programs for teens and corporate membership. With a passion for connecting her community to the Y movement, she also spent two years with YMCA of the Rockies in Colorado where she successfully led their Annual Giving Campaign to raise $425,000 for youth & families in need. Soon thereafter, the YMCA of Greater Omaha called her back to serve as the Senior Membership Director and most recently Executive Director of their Sarpy YMCA in Papillion, NE. Under her leadership, this location grew in membership, community involvement and financial support. In 2016, Tera became the Newton YMCA's first Branch Director and has played a vital role in opening the new facility.

Josh has been a part of the YMCA in Minnesota and Kansas. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science from North Dakota State University, and has over 15 years in the Fitness industry with a focus on Wellness and Club Operations. Josh joined the Newton team in March 2016 and was instrumental in the preparation of the Y’s grand opening. Josh is very excited to be a part of the Newton YMCA, and hopes he can help in bringing the community together and making the surrounding area a healthier place to live.

After graduating from Bethel College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary and Special Education Ages K-6th, Becca was an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher at the Cooper Early Education Center located right here in Newton for two years. She is currently enrolled in a graduate program at Emporia State University with a primary focus in Early Childhood Special Education Birth to Age 8. Becca started her YMCA career at the Northwest YMCA as a gymnastics instructor and birthday party host. Since then, she has served the Y as a lifeguard, Summer Day Camp and Teen Counselor, and most recently as the Youth and Family Director at the Sarpy Community YMCA in Papillion, NE. Becca joined the Newton YMCA team in 2016.

Benjamin joined the Newton team in 2016, and has been with the Y since graduating from Kansas State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Family Studies and Human Services. He began his Y career in 2015 as the Assistant Membership Director at Wichita’s Northwest YMCA. His passion for individuals and his community combined into a love for the Y and its cause.

Ashley graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management and was the captain of the Women's Basketball team. She began her career with the Y in 2005 as the Sports Director with the New City YMCA in Chicago Illinois. Ashley then served as the Program Director and the Chair of the Youth Development Service team for 8 years in Northern Virginia with the Fairfax County Reston YMCA. Most recently, Ashley served as the Youth Development Director with the Lake View YMCA in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout her career she has operated many programs such as youth and adult sports, teen programming, before and after school, preschool and summer camp. She recently moved to Newton and is very excited to be a part of the Newton community. 

Scotti has grown up in the Y and has worked with three different associations in the Midwest as a lifeguard, aquatics instructor, and a director of day camp. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Biomedical Science from Southeast Missouri State University. She is looking forward to the opportunity to provide aquatics programming to the Newton area. She has a passion for working with all people and helping them build a healthy spirit, mind, and body.

Originally from St. George, Kansas, Amy Yenzer comes to us from the Minot Family YMCA in Minot, North Dakota. She has been a part of the YMCA family for the past 4 years. Amy began her YMCA career in the welcome center before taking over as the Sports Director. Her greatest joy is seeing the youth enjoy participating in sports and activities that they love and seeing them succeed and grow not only as athletes but also as leaders. Amy not only ran the sports programs in Minot, but also provided private basketball lessons to youth in the community and surrounding areas. As a student-athlete, she excelled in basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball. Amy is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania. Amy has developed a passion for officiating junior high and high school volleyball and basketball. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Amy looks forward to working at the Newton YMCA to grow the sports programs within the community.

Julie has an Applied Science Degree in Retail/Marketing from Hutchinson Community College. Upon graduating she has had a successful career in retail management. She and her husband, Josh, have been Newton residents for 18 years, and are regularly active in the community. During her spare time, you will find our new Administrative Assistant cheering on her kids at their sporting events and activities, playing on a local volleyball team, and working out. Julie joined the Newton team in 2016.
