The Newton YMCA’s Martial Arts Program is led by 8th Degree Black Belt Master Chris Rangel. With over 46 years of martial arts experience, he is a current student of world famous Black Belt Hall of Fame instructor and founder of the Ernie Reyes World West Coast Martial Arts Association, Master Ernie Reyes Sr. Mr. Rangel has a B.S. in Fitness and Nutrition Consultation and an Associates degree in Allied Health. He was a former member of The World Class Athletes Program hosted by the U.S. Army Tae Kwon Do Team at Ft. Carson, Colorado.
Little Tykes | Ages 4-7 | 30 minutes
Your child will have fun while learning a wide variety of skills within a safe and exciting environment.
Self-Defense | Ages 8+ | 30 minutes
Bully-free Me! This self-defense program is designed to educate, empower, and impact lives so that potential victims do not have to live in fear, but in awareness. It will reduce the risk of becoming a victim.
AAU Competitive Team | Ages 8+ | 45 minutes
The TORCH program is designed for students desiring to compete in tournaments and prepare for the AAU Junior Olympic Championships, or experience World Champion-style training. This teaches fundamental techniques, drills, and partner drills of Tae Kwon Do.
Family Martial Arts | Ages 6+ | 60 minutes
This class will utilize our roots in Tae Kwon Do. For tradition, we will teach a blend of martial arts to learn self-defense, kickboxing, kata board breaking, grappling, Olympic sparring, and more!
Martial Arts Boot Camp (Conditioning) | Ages 13+ | 45 minutes
Get a next-level workout in this fitness option. Fitness routines will be provided that will improve your endurance, balance, and strength.
Martial Arts Kick-Boxing (Conditioning) | Ages 13+ | 45 minutes
Learn how to be in control of your mind, body, and emotions with intent, direction, and power! All this in a fun, friendly environment that will also improve your flexibility, endurance, and physical vigor.
