Our WATER PARKS are, due to weather, CLOSED on Tu. 6/18. Our INDOOR POOLS ARE open regular hours. Please come inside and swim.

SUMMER LIFEGUARDS NEEDED - ALL 9 LOCATIONS

ATTENTION - We're looking for summer lifeguards for our indoor pools and outdoor water parks. We offer lower-cost certification and, to qualifying guards, a refund of charges.

The Greater Wichita YMCA operates Camp Hyde for twelve weeks each summer. Located in Viola, Kansas - the camp features outdoor areas, play and learning spaces, a lodge and eating area, and a chapel. Each week has its own theme and there is bus transportation and additional support - including breakfast and snacks - available.

  • We offer five different camper age ranges with parts of each day designated for age-specific activities:
    • EXPLORERS - Ages 6-7 (Must have completed Kindergarten)
    • TRAILBLAZERS - Ages 8-10
    • PATHFINDERS - Ages 11-12
    • TEEN CAMPERS - Ages 13-15
    • TEEN CREW (CIT/LIT) - Ages 13/15
  • Camp Hyde has a flat fee regardless of camper age and, like with all local Y programs - financial assistance is available:
    • MEMBER RATE: $130/week/camper
    • NON-MEMBER RATE: $150/week/camper
    • BUS TRANSPORTATION: $25/week/camper
    • SWIM LESSONS: $20/week/camper
  • There are 12 Sessions in the 2019 camp season. Dates and times are as follows:
    • Monday - Friday, 7:30AM-5:30PM from Tuesday, May 28 - Friday, August 9, 2019 (NOTE - There is no camp Mo. 5/27 (Memorial Day) nor Th. 7/4 (Independence Day))
    • "Bus Stop" location hours are from 6:30AM-6PM the same dates and restrictions as above

WEEKLY THEMES

To ensure fun and learning for the entire summer, Camp Hyde sets a different theme each week. The weekly theme - based on a rotation of our core values (caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility) - varies and includes a host of week-long and daily activities that keep all campers involved. SESSION 2 (Tues. May 28th - Fri. May 31st*) | Goop Magic and Summer Safari

Join us for a Safari Scavenger Hunt, wacky relays, foil art, and messy team challenges including Jell-O contests and ooey, gooey, slimy activities.

SESSION 3 (Mon. June 3rd - Fri. June 7th) | Pirate Invasion

"Ahoy, Matties! Where be your treasure?" Create your own pirate flag, eye patch and treasure maps. Sample wallaby soup, and discover the treasure of friendship with team-building activities including flour wars, a cannonball toss, sand art, and Shipwrecked Survivor Challenges.

SESSION 4 (Mon. June 10th - Fri. June 14th) | Wild West

"Howdy Partner!" Grab your hat and boots as we welcome you to explore the Wild West through an exploration of our stars and solar system, a gold rush, country line dancing and country karaoke, and a build-your-own wagon race.

SESSION 5 (Mon. June 17th - Fri. June 21st) | Color Wars 

Color wars is a week-long battle. Create team flags, put on face paint, and compete with friends in ding-dong baseball, capture the flag, Ultimate Frisbee, Australian-rules kickball, noodle wars, Minute-to-Win-It challenges, and the Wacky Olympics. Bring a t-shirt to tie dye.

SESSION 6 (Mon. June 24th - Fri. June 28th) | Wet and Wild

A week of Wet and wild activities all week include: slip and slides, obstacle courses, hula hoop competitions, water gun wars, Will It Float? STEAM projects, water balloon volleyball, sprinkler tag and a cookout.

SESSION 7 (Mon. July 1st - Fri. July 5th*) | Happy Holidays

NEW! Let the festivities begin! We hope you're in the spirit because this week is all about the holidays. We'll celebrate as many holidays as possible for a year's worth of fun in just five days. We'll spread holiday cheer and learn about each holiday and its meaning and significance.

SESSION 8 (Mon. July 8th - Fri. July 12th) | Around the World in Five Days

Create your YMCA passport - we're going to travel the world in search of new cuisines, games, arts, and cultures. We'll sample various foods, make African masks, Egyptian art, Chinese painted scrolls, and more to discover the artist in you.

SESSION 9 (Mon. July 15th - Fri. July 19th) | Outdoor Adventures

Enjoy Planet Earth as we step outside and enjoy the beauty and simplicity of the natural world around us. Discover green art and nature crafts, enjoy recycling projects, play classic outdoor games, eat trail mix and food cooked outside, and create sidewalk art.

SESSION 10 (Mon. July 22nd - Fri. July 25th) | Time Travel

Let's go back in time to explore eras and ages passed and ahead. We'll dig for fossils and dinosaur eggs, hunt in caves and observe cave drawings, and watch a volcano erupt before speeding ahead to the ages of sock hops and disco. We'll jump ahead to image 2050 and return just in time for our Talent Show (parents welcome to attend - details to be provided).

SESSION 11 (Mon. July 29th - Fri. Aug 2nd) | Topsy Turvy Wizardy

This one is for the muggles and the Potter fans. We'll help you find the perfect wand, use the Sorting Hat to find your house, and teach you the basics of quidditch. Along the way we'll cook up some potions, experience the Whomping Willow, and visit the Common Room and the Honeydukes. Round out the week with your clothes on backwards at the carnival.

SESSION 12 (Mon. Aug 5th - Fri. Aug 9th) | Super Heroes

Calling all heroes! Camp Hyde needs your strengths and powers as we decipher codes and search for and battle an evil villain who plans to destroy everything in its path - including our camp, We'll have Olympics of the Mouth, water gun wars, and more competitions. Everyday super heroes are all around us - their call to action is NOW.

In addition to all-camp activities based on weekly theme, summer campers (Sports and Frontier campers excluded), based on age group, will spend mornings participating in their choice of specific clubs that are age and ability appropriate and that help ensure an educational experience on top of a fun time.

DROP-OFF and PICK-UP

Campers being dropped-off and picked-up directly at Camp Hyde should arrive between 7:30-8AM and depart between 5-5:30PM. Consult our PARENT HANDBOOK for instructions for special pick-ups for campers typically using the bus or mid-day departures.

Families choosing to use a "Bus Stop" location for remote drop-off and pick-up should drop campers between 6:30-8:25AM (buses leave AT 8:30AM) and pick up between 4:30-6PM. Breakfast is served at 8AM and snacks are provided to campers upon returning from Camp Hyde each afternoon. A fee of $25/week/camper covers transportation, additional hours of child care, breakfast, and snacks.
